Never hired a freelance designer before? Not clear on how all of this goes down? Then read on! I explain my step-by-step process that applies for most design projects. Step 1: Learn My design process starts with learning what your needs are. I will email you a questionnaire for you to fill out to the best of your abilities. The more information you give me, the more accurate your design concepts will be. It also helps to see examples of designs you like.
Step 2: Proposal After I have received the completed questionnaire from you, I can draw up a proposal for you which outlines the project cost, what is included and what to expect. 50% of the estimated project cost is required up-front to start work.
Step 3: Visual Research/Sketching This is the part where I explore your style and find inspiration. Once I get a few ideas, I start playing with designs and layouts.
Step 4: Design I choose my favorite ideas and start developing them more completely. I use industry standard design software to create a clean, professional look for your design.
Step 5: Presentation Once I’m happy with the design, I’ll email you to get your feedback. I will email a PDF with however many concepts were agreed on in your proposal. Your job is to look it over and decide if you want to make any changes. Don't be shy, I want you to be completely satisfied.
Step 6: Revisions I work on the changes that you have sent me. In this phase the draft is sent back and forth. The number of revision rounds is stated in the proposal (usually 3 rounds).
Step 7: Design sign-off Once you are happy with your design, it is signed off and I send you the final invoice. The process is almost complete! After payment you receive your brand new design as a print-ready PDF. For web graphics you receive JPG or PNG files and vector files will be available for logo designs.
